The Project Vahana plan from Airbus would see on-demand, autonomous drones ferrying passengers over city streets.

Designed with an eye toward the growth of Megacities, the service would allow a person to book a CityAirbus drone using the app, and then meet the ride at a ‘helipad.’ The drone would be shared with other passengers, and is said to cost about the same as taxi ride while being a faster and more pleasant experience. The drones would not fly freely, but would be contained within elevated ‘aerial corridors,’ and luggage would be carried separately.

According to Airbus, they hope to start testing the system’s drone parcel delivery on the National University of Singapore campus in mid-2017.
