Prosthetic Ankle Adjusts for the Terrain Ahead

Prosthetic Ankle Adjusts for the Terrain Ahead
Mar-04-15
A prosthetic ankle equipped with its own vision system could enable users to enjoy a more natural gait.

Developed by a team from Michigan Technological University, the robotic ankle is equipped with a camera that scans the ground ahead of the user and sends the information to a separate computer-controlled actuator. By identifying the profile of the ground, the device is able to adjust its angle and stiffness accordingly to provide a more natural movement.
