Protective Helmet Helps Soldiers Keep Their Cool

Protective Helmet Helps Soldiers Keep Their Cool
May-19-14
A new generation of headgear for soldiers could help keep them cooler while also protecting them against chemical and biological weapons.

The key to the improved unit lies in a lightweight fan powered by a battery pack carried by the solider. The face mask connects to the fan via a hose, which allows fresh, filtered air to flow through the helmet and onto the soldier's face. The air is filtered through the side of the mask, keeping the solider safe from toxins.

According to the helmet developers at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, the next version of the helmet will use body sensors to allow the fan to turn on automatically.
