Purifying Water(7)Aug-31-10 Sanford researchers have developed a new high-speed, low-cost filter by dipping plain cotton cloth into a mixture of silver nanowires and carbon nanotubes.Instead of trapping bacteria, this new filter lets them flow through, but kills them with an electrical field. Lab tests show that more than 98 percent of Escherichia coli bacteria were killed when exposed to 20 volts of electricity for a few seconds. This technology is perfectly suited to clean massive volumes of water in developing countries, or disaster areas. More Info:[EUREKALERT.ORG][NEXT]
Commentson Purifying Waternice idea Posted by amir raza on August 31, 2010 Am very much interested. We are still a third world country and very much in need of new technology and processess on how to purify water into safe and sterile drinking water especially in remote and ruralareaswhere potab;le drinking water is still a problem. Posted by Guy M. Dumlao on September 6, 2010 Dear researchers When it comes to bacteria, 98% is not good enough. 2% bacteria is same as 100 % bacteria. You must aim at 100% removal. Most people aim at 100% but claim 99.99% to ensure no one sues them.
