Respite Nebulizer Could Replace Needles

Respite Nebulizer Could Replace Needles
Nov-18-15
The Respite nebulizer hopes replace needles by delivering precise doses of medication via an acoustic wave-generated mist.

In development by a team from RMIT in Melbourne, the prototype nebulizer was created to improve on standard inhalers while offering a more effective way to help patients with compromised lungs absorb the medication. To that end, the Respite device uses surface acoustic waves to agitate the liquid medicine and turn it into a thick mist for the patient to inhale. In contrast to conventional inhalers, the device does not require that the patient inhale to trigger the aerosol, eliminates the need for hand-breath coordination, and can be adjusted to suit specific dosages.
