Rhema App Improves Public Speaking

Rhema App Improves Public Speaking
Apr-23-15
The Rhema interface for smart glasses gives the speaker unobtrusive, real-time feedback to help them improve as they speak.

Created by researchers from the Human-Computer Interaction Group at the University of Rochester, the Rhema system is able to record the speaker's voice, analyze the volume and speaking rate, and provide real-time feedback so the speaker can make adjustments. By keeping the notifications subtle, the system helps the user speak more effectively during the moment of the speech, without interrupting the flow. After some experimentation, the development team determined that simple words, such as louder or faster, delivered every 20 seconds work best. If the speaker is speaking well, no notification will sound.

The team believes the system could also be useful to people with autism or who work in the customer service industry.
