Robotic Lawnmower from iRobot is Wire-Free

Robotic Lawnmower from iRobot is Wire-Free
Apr-16-15
Roomba creator iRobot has stepped outside and onto the lawn with their new robotic lawnmower able to stay in bounds wirelessly.

Typically, robotic lawnmowers require a guide wire to be buried along the perimeter of the lawn in order to keep the robot in bounds. In contrast, the proposed robotic lawnmower from iRoomba eschews the wire in favor of a wireless beacon system made up of four to nine beacons driven into the ground by the homeowner. The beacons would provide guidance to the robot to keep it in the yard and ensure no areas are missed.

The iRobot company has filed a waiver with the FCC to have the radio frequency-based system approved.
