Robotic Tabletop Manipulates Objects by Changing Shape

Robotic Tabletop Manipulates Objects by Changing Shape
Nov-21-15
A robotic tabletop able to manipulate objects could lead to new methods of manufacturing and telepresence technologies.

Created by a team from MIT, the robotic tabletop is made up of an array of specially designed square pins powered by a motor beneath the table. The pins are attached to motor, and can be triggered by a computer—or a person—to move up and down on command. By moving the pins at the correct speed, the table can manipulate specially designed blocks to build a structure.
