Sada Bike Folds Small with Hubless Design

Sada Bike Folds Small with Hubless Design
May-05-14
The Sada Bike prototype takes compact bikes to a new level, folding as small as an umbrella while still featuring full-sized wheels.

Developed by Gianluca Sada, the Sada Bike's 26-inch wheels have no hubs. Instead, the wheels are anchored to the bike using smaller wheels on a frame and specially designed 'quick clamping device,' which allows them to be easily detached from the bike for maximum portability. The bike can fold up with a single motion, and can be stored inside is packaging container and worn like a backpack.

The bike's hubless design causes some to question its efficiency, but since the bike is designed for use in urban areas, that deficiency may not be a significant problem.

looks heavy (guess at least 16 kg), heavy to ride ( i guess more or less 70% of effectiveness is the maximum you can get like this, it will be riding in glue). It will never be produced. that spokeless wheels are not new and due to the fact, that spokes are a really good invention nobody apart from custom designers are using it.

The folding mechanism was never shown, so its not really working..

The frontweel is either ultraheavy (min 5-7 kg) or not working that way: if a wheel is spokeless you have to have the connection close to the ground. Like that its so impressive creepy that i feel it as a shame this guy got a diploma degree in engineering, he is a designer without any clou of physics.

The front wheel is a concern. There is very high leverage to make it twist sideways. Would be interested to understand the designers thoughts and method to keep the front wheel vertical.
