Saliva Test Determines Concussion Duration

Saliva Test Determines Concussion Duration
Nov-23-17
A new saliva test can not only detect a concussion, but also how long it will last.

Developed by a team at Penn State College of Medicine, the test is based on the detection of epigenetic signaling molecules (microRNAs) in saliva. According to assistant professor of pediatrics Steven Hicks, these miroRNAs could not only offer a way to diagnose a concussion, but also determine how long the symptoms might last.

The test could be particularly useful in diagnosing concussions in children.
