SALt LED Light Powered by Water and Salt

SALt LED Light Powered by Water and Salt
Jul-27-15
The SALt LED light is powered by water and salt, and could provide an alternative to kerosene lamps to people in rural locations all over the world.

First conceived by Greenpeace volunteer Aisa Mijeno after her stint in the Philippines, the SALt (Sustainable Alternative Lighting) LED is powered by a galvanic cell battery with an electrolyte solution made entirely of salt water. The lamp’s anode will last about six months with eight hours a day of use, and the team plans for the finished product to also be able to charge a smartphone.

Once up and running, the team hopes to deliver around 600 lamps to Filipino tribes, later bringing the lamp to market in 2016.
