SAROS Desalination Powered by the Waves

SAROS Desalination Powered by the Waves
Nov-22-15
The SAROS desalination system uses the force of the ocean waves to power its pumps, and could offer a new source of fresh water in rural or disaster-impacted areas.

Created by the startup SAROS Desalination, the SAROS (Swell Activated Reverse Osmosis System) consists of a series of high-pressure pumps and a buoy that floats on the surface of the water. The buoy harnesses the up-and-down motion of the waves to power its pumps, which force the water through a reverse-osmosis membrane to create clean water.

In comparison to conventional systems, the SAROS is affordable and portable, which makes it ideal for developing countries, military outposts, and disaster relief.
