Sensor Detects Fat-Burning in Breath

Sensor Detects Fat-Burning in Breath
Oct-15-17
A tiny sensor able to measure fat burning through a breath sample could have applications in both medicine and athletics.

Developed by a team from ETH, the coin-sized sensor is able to isolate and measure the level of acetone in the breath with unprecedented accuracy. According to the team, the sensor could help athletes and people trying to lose weight optimize their exercise, as well as diagnose diabetes (its original intent).

In tests on volunteers, the sensor was able to demonstrate that contrary to popular belief, fat burning commences soon after exercise begins.
