SiliconX Expands Battery Storage

SiliconX Expands Battery Storage
Jul-15-18
A new material called SiliconX could significantly extend the storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries.

Silicon has long been viewed as a promising anode material, but current examples of silicon expand and rupture after a few charging cycles. To bring this promise into reality, the team from the Institute for Energy Technology created SiliconX by mixing silicon nanoparticles with an unnamed material. The new material will not expand as drastically as standard silicon, and offers up to five times the charge capacity of graphite anodes.
