Smart Cushion Prevents Pressure Ulcers

Sep-20-18 A smart cushion for wheelchair users helps prevent pressure ulcers by automatically redistributing body weight.

Developed by a team from the University of Texas Arlington, the smart cushion is equipped with sensors able to detect time and amount of pressure. By monitoring the pressure points on the user’s body, the cushion system will trigger segments to inflate and deflate in order to shift the user’s weight and relieve the pressure.
