Smartphone App Helps Reduce Emissions

Sep-18-17 The CROWD4ROADS project aims to use smartphones to help make roads greener.

The CROWD4ROADS project relies on car-mounted smartphones able to detect changes in acceleration caused by holes or bumps. That data is transmitted to the SmartRoadSense platform, which processes the data to determine which roads are in need of repair. According to the team, damaged roads create more vibration and friction on tires, increasing both vehicular maintenance cost and fuel.

The CROWD4ROADS project is just one part of a greater plan by the EU to help reduce vehicular emissions and encourage intentional use.
