Social Textiles Wearable Tech Makes Social Networking Easier

Social Textiles Wearable Tech Makes Social Networking Easier

Wear your heart on your sleeve—or at least your words on your chest—with the Social Textiles shirts from MIT.

The shirts, developed by MIT's Fluid Interfaces Group, are printed with letters in thermochromactic ink that can be lit up on command to spell a chosen word. The shirts communicate with a smartphone via Bluetooth, and will detect when other people nearby that share the same interests come within twelve feet of each other, causing a haptic motor in the collar to vibrate. If the two wearers make physical contact, such as a handshake or touch on the shoulder, the Social Textile shirt will illuminate to display what the two people have in common.
