Softer, Safer Wood-Based Battery

Softer, Safer Wood-Based Battery
Jun-03-15
A new squishy, wood-based battery could one day find its way into wearable electronics and safer electric cars.

The battery is made using nanocellulous, a material derived from wood pulp and that can be made using waste wood from lumber and paper mill. Compared somewhat to the “foam in a mattress,” the aerogel-like material is strong, light and porous, and sturdy enough to be handled. To allow the material to hold a charge, the team coated the interior and exterior with a conductive ink, resulting in a squishy, three-dimensional battery able to hold more power than conventional batteries.
