Software Detects Concussions by Analyzing the Voice
Apr-02-13
A tablet-based test is able to detect concussions immediately by analyzing the victim’s voice.

Developed by a team at the University of Notre Dame, the software requires that a person first recite a selection of words before the event. Using this baseline, the person can then recite the same words after a potentially concussive episode , which allows the software to analyze any variations that would indicate a concussion, such as distorted vowels or hyper nasality.

The system also prevents athletes from being able to downplay their symptoms in order to stay in the game.
