Solar Cell Uses Photon Power

Solar Cell Uses Photon Power

(7)Feb-13-12
A new hybrid solar cell is able to harness the power of photons, which could lead to the creation of significantly more efficient solar panels.

The cell, developed by scientists at Cambridge University, is made of lead sulphide nanoparticles and pentacene. The addition of the organic pentacene allows the solar cells to double the electrons for each photon in the blue light spectrum, which allows the solar cell 'to make better use of the high-energy photons.'

The researchers also believe it could be possible to create cells able to harness energy from other areas of the spectrum.
