The Spark Socket let you put your lights on the network by turning regular sockets into Wi-Fi controlled devices.
Developed by Zach Supalla, the Spark Socket fits into a regular bulb socket, where it sits between a dimmable light bulb and the standard fixture. It connects to the internet using a Wi-Fi router, so no additional hardware is required. Once installed, the light can be controlled using a PC, Android or iOS device simply by logging into the website or using the developer-created apps. In addition, the RESTful API allows software developers to create their own apps, such as causing the light to change based on the weather or Twitter feed.
Supalla was inspired to create the Spark Socket by his father, who is deaf and uses light as a signaling device. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
