Spherical GuardBot Could Patrol the Seas

Spherical GuardBot Could Patrol the Seas
Feb-18-15
Originally designed for use in space travel, the spherical GuardBot is now being tested for use as an amphibious scout here on Earth.

The GuardBot, created by GuardBot, Inc., has been in development for more than seven years. The sturdy, spherical robot can roll through sand and snow at speeds up to 6 mph and can swim through water up to 3 mph. The bot is propelled via its "pendulum motion" propulsion system, which steers the robot by shifting its center of gravity. The GuardBot can travel for up to eight hours on a single battery charge, and is equipped with a pair of cameras for capturing video and a laser spectroscope able to detect chemicals within a radius of two inches.
