Stride Sensors Detect Immient Falls

Stride Sensors Detect Immient Falls
Aug-30-16
Designed to be installed in the home, the Stride Sensor system monitors a person’s stride to determine if a fall is imminent.

The system was developed by a team from the University of Missouri to offer a way to predict an elderly person’s risk of fall, without relying on a physical tracker. The system is made up of an array of cameras that monitor the person’s gait to detect any changes that could indicate an increased risk of fall. According to the team’s research, a slowing in gait speed of two inches per second, or shortened stride, is a predictor of fall within the new few weeks.
