Student App Gradually Weans Smokers

Student App Gradually Weans Smokers
Jul-15-14
A new, student-developed smartphone app concept would help smokers kick the habit by gradually weaning them off nicotine while enlisting support from family and friends.

The concept, developed by a team from Lincoln University, recently won the Vodafone 24 hour challenge—which gives students only one day to design a new product idea. The students' concept features an e-cigarette that works with a personalized app program to gradually reduce the nicotine dosage over time without changing the amount of vapor inhaled. The companion app will also provide the would-be ex-smoker with progress reports as well as stats on health benefits and money saved, and the progress can be shared with friends to help the user stayed motivated.

Although the idea is still in the concept phase, the team has designed it to a level that would allow a prototype to be built.
