Created by German high school students, the i-protect system helps to prevent dings on car doors by stopping the door before it makes contact.
The system, developed by a team from Cologne's Erzbischoefliche Liebfrauenschule, relies on a sensor-based brake system that will detect a nearby object and automatically stop the car door from opening any further.
The i-protect won first place in the Boston Consulting Group's business@school entrepreneurial competition, and the technology will be commercially developed by Kiekert, the top German automotive closure system. However, the students will retain the right to the patent.
