SysteMD Wearable Diagnoses Mental Illness

SysteMD Wearable Diagnoses Mental Illness
Nov-17-18
The SysteMD body tracker from Draper can diagnose mental illness via vital signs and physical parameters.

Typically, mental illness is diagnosed by self-reported symptoms, which are subjective and impossible for the physician to detect. To offer a more complete diagnosis, the SysteMD (System with Sensors to Evaluate Mental Disorders) from Draper consists of a headset, wrist and ankle wearables embedded with sensors able to monitor heart and respiration rate, sweat levels and pupil diameter. That data is analyzed by a specialized algorithm to determine patterns that could indicate mental illness.

In tests, the SysteMD prototype was able to diagnose between 82% and 94% of PSTD cases.
