Text-Enabled Jacket for Rescue Workers

Text-Enabled Jacket for Rescue Workers
Apr-23-14
A new jacket that allows wearers to read text messages hands-free could make it easier for rescue teams to maintain contact with each other.

Developed by a team from SINTEF in collaboration with students from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the prototype jacket's electronics are sewn within it. A narrow LCD screen on the sleeve is able to display messages, which the developers envision being sent wirelessly from a central command. When command sends a message—using a phone or computer—a buzzer in the jacket's collar will activate, alerting the wearer to the incoming text. The user can then read the scrolling message by looking at their sleeve.
