Thermal Imaging Detects Mental Stress

Thermal Imaging Detects Mental Stress
Jan-22-18
A non-invasive thermal imaging system could help detect mental strain in pilots.

The research, from a team at Nottingham University, is based on the knowledge that the temperature around the sinuses and nose will drop when an individual performs difficult tasks. By monitoring the temperature of these areas with unobtrusive thermal cameras placed in the cockpit, the pilot’s level of mental stress could be tracked, offering an insight into what tasks create the greatest mental strain and how to offer better support.
