Tiny Robots Stimulate Tissue for Science

Tiny Robots Stimulate Tissue for Science
Feb-13-19
Tiny soft robots that stimulate tissue samples could have applications in medical implants and on-demand drug delivery.

The variety of mechanical stressors natural tissue receive can both alter the tissue and contribute to disease—and that in turn can affect treatment options. In order to study more accurate small tissue samples, and more quickly, the team from Ecole created miniature robots that will manipulate the samples when exposed to near-infrared light. Many different specific movements are possible, with each contraction and relaxation performed in milliseconds.
