Tougher Self-Healing rubber

Tougher Self-Healing rubber
Aug-19-17
An innovative new self-healing rubber could end flat tires forever.

A team at Harvard created the rubber by developing a new way to mix reversible and covalent bonds in dry rubber. This unique process causes the bonds to mix at the molecular level, combining the self-healing properties of reversible hydrogen bonds with the integrity-lending covalent bonds.

The resulting rubber is both extremely tough as well as able to self-heal from punctures.
