Triton Canister App Measures Blood Through a Photograph

Triton Canister App Measures Blood Through a Photograph
Mar-23-15
Recently approved by the FDA, the Triton Canister App can determine the amount of blood in a surgical suction container via a photograph, providing a simple and accurate way for clinicians to keep track of blood loss.

Developed by Gauss Surgical, who also created a similar app that measures blood loss in surgical sponges, the Canister App is designed to work in conjunction with an iPad. After the clinician takes a photo of the canister with the iPad's camera, the image is uploaded to the company site, which processes the image to determine the amount of hemoglobin and blood loss. According to the developers, the app can function well in different lighting conditions as well as when saline has been mixed in the container.
