Turbines Harvest Waves and Protect Shores

Turbines Harvest Waves and Protect Shores
Sep-25-17
Shore-based turbines could harvest wave energy while also helping prevent coastline erosion.

The turbine project, from the team at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, was inspired by the tetrapods used to help to weaken the force of incoming waves and protect the shoreline. The OIST Wave Energy Converter (WEC) turbines would be anchored near the existing tetrapods just above sea level, where they can harvest the energy of the waves while also helping to dissipate it.
