Two Year Sandwich

Two Year Sandwich
Dec-10-11
By naturally eliminating water and oxygen from the ingredients, the US Army has developed a sandwich with a shelf life of two years.

The sandwich's ingredients are chosen based on their ability to lock in moisture, such as honey, sugar, and salt. Tomatoes are avoided. Each sandwich is sealed in an airtight package with a small packet of iron filings which act as an oxygen scavenger, absorbing oxygen from the air to create rust.
