UPnRIDE Standing Wheelchair for Quadriplegics

UPnRIDE Standing Wheelchair for Quadriplegics
Aug-22-14
The UPnRIDE lets wheelchair users—including quadriplegics—move through the various terrains of urban settings in a standing position and with confidence.

Created by the makers of ReWalk, the UPnRIDE differs from the other standing wheelchairs with its Segway-like design, which gives it unprecedented stability and allows it to be used by people without full control of their arms. This was accomplished by integrating three unique features into the device's design: the ability to maintain the same center of gravity whether the user is sitting or standing, the addition of an 'active stabilizer' platform, and safety arms that will automatically raise if the unit senses the user is about to fall.

According to the designer, Dr. Amit Goffer, the main goal of the UPnRIDE is to provide people with mobility—especially the younger generation: "The person on the outside will see it as a Segway and not a wheelchair. For the younger generation of handicapped individuals, this is especially important."
