UpSee Gets Disabled Children on Their Feet

UpSee Gets Disabled Children on Their Feet
Apr-04-14
The UpSee gives wheelchair-bound children a way to stand with their parents and explore the world together.

Although huge strides are being made in exoskeletons, these devices are expensive and not practical for children. Created by a mother, the Upsee was designed as less expensive way to get disabled children on their feet. The device features a harness for the child, a belt for the adult and special sandals. The child is placed in the harness, which is then attached to the adult's belt to provide the support for the child to stand. The special sandals allow the parent and child to step in time, which leaves their hands free and provides a more realistic walking experience with a greater sense of independence.

The UpSee also encourages children to move about and bear weight, which can help increase their chances of long-term development.
