Virocap Test

Virocap Test
Oct-08-15
Researchers from the Washington University in St. Louis have developed a new test capable of detecting nearly all viruses known to infect humans and animals.

The test could potentially help doctors diagnose infection regardless if they do not have a clue what they are looking for.

Thousands of viruses cause illnesses in both people and animals and this makes diagnosis difficult sometimes requiring a range of different tests. Currently available tests are not sensitive enough for detecting low levels of viral bugs or can only detect viruses that are suspected of being the cause of a patient's illness.

"Virocap test" can detect virtually any virus known to infect humans and animals, ranging from common viruses to more exotic ones. The test is so sensitive that it can even detect variant strains of viruses as well as multiple viruses at the same time, something no other current diagnostic test is capable of. Along with this, UPI reported that the ViroCap was 52 percent more accurate at diagnosing viruses than PCR tests, which are currently used for diagnoses.

The researchers plan to soon launch an online service for the test.

I think this is a great technology for development countries specifically in Africa

What about viruses that have not been detected yet. Viruses that are not known. can it detect a virus that has not been seen in humans or animals every before. New viruses?
