Virtual Reality for All Five Senses

Virtual Reality for All Five Senses
Mar-04-09
The first totally virtual-reality or real-vituality headset that can stimulate all five senses has arrived.

What we call virtual reality today has changed. It's been all sight and sound. The best versions give the impression of being in another world. But now comes the first device to stimulate all five senses—sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell.

The use wears a Virtual Cocoon, below. Odors come through a tube at the nose and are generated electronically using a new technique. Taste comes from a texture sensation from a mouthpiece. Tactile devices provide touch sensation.

A prototype is on exhibition at the London Olympia Conference Centre.
