WaterShed House Harnesses Water and Solar

WaterShed House Harnesses Water and Solar

(1)Apr-12-11
The WaterShed is an innovative house design, created to harness both sun and rainwater.

Designed by a team from the University of Maryland as part of a solar powered house competition, the WaterShed utilizes a unique butterfly roof, slanted toward the central bathroom, to capture rainwater. The rainwater is saved to cool the house, as well as providing humidity control through an indoor waterfall. The rooftop solar array is powerful enough to power the house year round.

This is the University of Maryland's fourth entry in the Solar Decathlon. The University won 1st place in the 2007 competition with their LEAFHouse, and 2nd place in the international competition.
