Wearable Patch Monitors Hydration Levels

Wearable Patch Monitors Hydration Levels
Mar-21-18
Gatorade’s new hydration-tracking wearable lets users monitor their hydration and chloride levels with ease.

Developed by Gatorade in collaboration with Dr. John Rogers of Northwestern University, the quarter-sized wearable attaches to the skin, where it monitors the amount of chloride in the sweat. Food dye in the patch will be released as an indicator for dehydration and chloride levels, allowing the user to check their levels simply by looking at the patch.

The startup Epicore Biosystems has been established by Rogers to commercialize the patch, which could be on shelves within a couple of years.
