Researchers have developed a smart walking aide that could make it easier for people for limited peripheral vision to navigate their environment.
The pocket-sized wearable device is designed to be attached to the user's clothing, where it will monitor nearby obstacles via its wide-angle camera. If the system detects a potential collision, it will beep an audible alarm. In obstacle course tests with volunteers suffering from either tunnel vision or hemianopia, people wearing the device showed a 37 percent reduction in collisions.
