A new welding process could make 3D-printed layers more robust.
The process was developed by Texas A&M doctoral student, Brandon Sweeney, who worked with his mentor to apply welding techniques to 3D printed layers. Since these layers can be fragile, the new process involves including carbon nanotubes in 3D-printed materials. These carbon nanotubes can be melted when exposed to microwaves, producing a stronger bond than with typical 3D printing alone.
