The WideSee drone-mounted scanner system can fly around the perimeter of a building to detect people who may be trapped inside.
The WideSee system was developed for use in search and rescue missions, and could be particularly useful for detecting people trapped inside high-rise buildings. Rather than using heat-seeking cameras, which can be confounded by fire, the WideSee system relies on an adaptation of the commercially available, LoRa wireless radio system. Objects—such as people—inside the building will alter the radio signals transmitted by the drones, allowing the reflected signals to be analyzed in order to determine if any people are inside.
