Wing Tip Device Improves Fuel Efficiency

Wing Tip Device Improves Fuel Efficiency
Jun-24-10
Fuel consumption is a huge concern for the airline industry, and the Minix wing tip promises to improve fuel efficiency by up to 6%. That translates into a savings of about 600,000 gallons of fuel per year, per aircraft.

As well as fuel savings, the technology also helps to lower emissions.

The Minix sits at the tip of an aircraft's wing, and replaces the winglets common on many craft. The technology smooths out and negates the spiral vortices that create drag on the aircraft and a dangerous pressure wake that can cause other planes to crash, if they take off too close behind another aircraft.
