Wooden Flooring Generates Energy from Footsteps

Wooden Flooring Generates Energy from Footsteps
Oct-25-16
A team from UW Madison has developed a wooden flooring system able to generate electricity from footsteps.

The technology makes use of the cellulose nanofibers in waste wood pulp, which the team chemically treated to produce a charge when they contact untreated fibers. The two different fibers were embedded in the flooring, where the vibrations from the foot travel above bring them in contact with one another. This contact produces a charge that can be harvested as electricity.
