Transgenic Mice Expressing a Truncated Mutant of Rat Cardiac Troponin

Stunned myocardium is a reversible contractile failure secondary to coronary artery disease. It has been found that selected proteolysis of the protein troponin is associated with stunned myocardium and this effect has been modeled using transgenic mice expressing the major degradation product of troponin. The same type of troponin proteolysis occurs in ischemic human cardiac muscle, thus these mice can be used as a model in the evaluation of therapeutics targeting this cause of heart failure. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) This mouse model is the first genetic model for a commonly acquired for of human heart failure thus they may be very useful for drug therapy screening for a company engaged in researching cardiac therapeutics.
