Improved Fitting Calculation for Diffusion Tensor Imaging
Diffusion tensor imging is a new MRI modality, which is becomig a very important technque to assess various tyes of brain diseases. However, this technque has one weakness; its extreme sensitivity to patient motions. The image is often corrpted by patient motions as small as cardiac pulsation of the brain. Even though this problem is ameliorated by employment of rapid imaging, we often fmd corrpted imges are included in the scans, which leads to substantial errors in tensor calculation. Curently, one of the best methods is to visually inspect all the raw images and remove corrpted imges from the subsequent tensor calculation. However, the number of raw imges is tyically 1,000 - 4,000 and the process could be very time consumng. In this invention, technques have been developed to automatically detect and remove the corrpted imges. Description (Set) The present invention relates to an algorithm that may be installed in MRI scanning systems for the purpose of overcoming motion sensitivity to enhance the images captured during Diffusion Tensor-MRI (DT-MRI). The disclosed method comprises an automated detection process that utilizes 6 criteria for identifying corrupted images, followed by removal. Proposed Use (Set) MRI scanners
