Farm Tour for People with Disabilities |
 |
|
A farm that no longer operates as a commercial agricultural enterprise now hosts tours for students and tourists. Visitors see how a farm works, how animals are tended, and how crops are grown and harvested. In addition, nature walks introduce urban visitors to the surrounding wooded areas as well as some of their wild inhavitants.
The owners have done their best to make the entire farm as accessible as possible to people with disabilities.
However, in order to keep the farm as authentic and natural as possible, some features, such as the nature walk, remain inaccessible to people in wheelchairs and the like.
The owners and managers of the farm would like to find ways to make inaccessible areas accessible in other ways, such as providing live, video virtual "access" to chair-bound visitors.
All solutions need to consider cost as well as keeping the entire farm environment as authentic as possible. Consider more than mobility issues. How might we make the farm tour informative and enjoyable for people who have a loss of hearing, sight, mental function, and other limitations.
