Thanks for dropping in. Please tell us what you think about education.
Whilst identifying a problem, this post is aimed at inviting ideas so that we can collect, connect and collate (the three Cs)
Here are a few thoughts but we need to know ‘what’s going on’
Feel free to tell us what good things are happening, especially to do with creativity in education
Background:
We are teaching to suit a commercial, industrialized, world but the world is changing.
Do we need to design new education and training programmes to suit the world that our kids will be living in when they retire, in say 2060?
Are many educational and training programmes stuck in the 1900’s, more suited to old-style jobs, leisure and lives?
Do you think these three problems can be fixed and how?
1) education, as delivered, often fails to capture the imagination of the student
2) education isn't matched to vocational and professional necessity
3) education isn’t matched to the strengths and weaknesses of individual students
Building in the Hope Factor:
Many are working to improve education and training but it will be down to the school and the teacher to introduce more creativity and better thinking. We need to build hope into curriculums, setting out target futures for students.
We must also build in the hope factor for teachers, so that they can be better taught to teach, to bring out the best of their creativeness.
Using Internet/Intranet based and designed systems, could all educational programmes be simply interactive and inclusive of schools/colleges/ universities + individual teachers/lecturers + parents/guardians and fully focused upon the individual student. Could such programmes build in the hope factor?
I think the answer is “yes”. Such programmes could enable relevant monitoring given that teachers/lecturers can then be better facilitated to be great in the classroom. Linking up homes, libraries and academies (schools/colleges/universities) education cold be delivered in such a way as to enable teachers/lecturers and parents to facilitate great classroom activity.
SEEKING SOLUTIONS:
What do you think?
PLEASE RESPOND, EVEN IF IT IS JUST TO AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THESE IDEAS.
Bullet points will be welcomed.
