Energy producing houses

Post a Problem
There are already houses that are called "passive". This means their energy consumption is very low.
There are houses that are full of domotica, and there are houses that are entirely built according to the cradle to cradle principles.

What is the next step: eco-advancing houses.
This means that the house has during it's entire life cycle a positive impact on the world (generates energy and oxygen, recycles,...)

How to build one?
Which technologies are available?
How to make it affordable so that everyone can live in such a house?
What are the environment specific needs?
Can it be in cities?
