The problem of being a good significant Problem solver

Post a Problem
Ideaconnection posts significant meaning difficult and important problems that have economic or scientific impact. I would like to learn about tools for solving these problems. I am especially interested in generic problem solving techniques that do not require high levels of expertise. How can one solve novel problems that stump companies heavily involved in their fields quickly and satisfactorily with the solution being adequately documented? Any ideas would help especially ones not obvious like doing a literature or Google search.
